Day 37 - Rom 5:9-10 Because Christ is my Righteousness in Heaven, He’s my life on earth
Romans 5:9-10 states, "Much more then, having now been justified by His blood, we shall be saved from wrath through Him. For if when we were enemies we were reconciled to God through the death of His Son, much more, having been reconciled, *we shall be saved by His life."*
In Romans 5:9-10, there is a significant shift from judicial redemption to salvation in life. The first four chapters of Romans focus on Christ's work in the heavens to deal with our judicial situation before God and justify us. However, in Romans 5, the focus turns to Christ as life in us and the salvation that He secured for us. This shift highlights the “organic” aspect of our salvation, where we are no longer just forgiven of our sins but also receive the life of God, which is Christ Himself.
This passage emphasizes that our salvation is not just about the forgiveness of sins and “going to heaven” but brings something to us that we can enjoy today. We are saved from the wrath of God through Christ's death, but we are also saved by His life. This life is working in us now, to bring the riches of what Christ has entered into as the heir of God to us, to share His living before the Father with us. The next few chapters in Romans speak about the life we have received and culminate in the blessing of the Spirit of Sonship, bearing witness with our spirit that we are children of God and heirs, liberating us from the spirit of bondage and fear and allowing us to live before the Father with no condemnation, as joint heirs with Jesus Christ and heirs of God Himself (Romans 8:14-17).
Furthermore, Christ is not only the manifestation of our righteousness in the heavens but also our life on earth. Romans 8:10 says, "And if Christ is in you, the body is dead because of sin, but the Spirit is life because of righteousness". Christ's life in us brings about a new way of living, where we are no longer under the power of sin but empowered by the Spirit of life (Romans 6:4-14). This life in Christ enables us to experience freedom from condemnation and walk in the righteousness of God (Romans 8:1-2).
Christ is not only the manifestation of our righteousness in the heavens but also our life on earth. Romans 8:10 says, "And if Christ is in you, the body is dead because of sin, but the Spirit is life because of righteousness." Christ's life in us brings about a new way of living. We are no longer slaves to sin, or slaves under the law. We are sons and heirs, being conformed to the image of Christ through the knowledge of Him, by the working of His Spirit in us, which is life. This life in Christ enables us to experience freedom from condemnation and live confidently, with joy, before God, “reigning in life”!

Prayer / Confession
Dear Lord Jesus, I thank You for justifying me by Your blood and saving me from wrath. Thank You for reconciling me to Yourself through Your death and for saving me by Your life. Your life in me is working to bring me into the riches of what You have entered into as the heir of God. I praise You that I am no longer a slave to sin, but grace is reigning in my life. I am supplied by the Spirit of life because of Your righteousness.
