Day 29 - Rom 4:17 Because Abraham is My pattern for faith, I wait on God to fulfill His word in my life.

Rom 4:17-22 (As it is written, I have made thee a father of many nations,) before him whom he believed, even God, who quickeneth the dead, and calleth those things which be not as though they were. (18) Who against hope believed in hope, that he might become the father of many nations, according to that which was spoken, So shall thy seed be. (19) And being not weak in faith, he considered not his own body now dead, when he was about an hundred years old, neither yet the deadness of Sara's womb: (20) He staggered not at the promise of God through unbelief; but was strong in faith, giving glory to God; (21) And being fully persuaded that, what he had promised, he was able also to perform. (22) And therefore it was imputed to him for righteousness.

Verses

  • Romans 4:3 "For what saith the scripture? Abraham believed God, and it was counted unto him for righteousness."
  • Romans 4:5 "But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness."
  • Romans 4:9 "Cometh this blessedness then upon the circumcision only, or upon the uncircumcision also? for we say that faith was reckoned to Abraham for righteousness."
  • Hebrews 11:1 "Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen."

Prayer / Confession

Lord, as I read about the faith of Abraham and the transformative power of Your grace, I confess that oftentimes, I rely on my own righteousness and works, rather than trusting in Your promise and power. I know that my faith should be based on Your word, and not on my own understanding or circumstances. Please forgive me for my doubts and unbelief and help me to rely on You alone.
I thank You for the example of Abraham, who waited patiently for Your promise to be fulfilled in his life. Help me to wait patiently for the fruit of my faith to be manifest in my life, and to trust in Your power to produce spiritual fruit in me. I pray that You would give me the faith of Abraham, and that You would count my faith as righteousness, just as You did for him.
I thank You for the assurance of Your promise, and for the hope that I have in You. I pray that You will help me to focus on Your word, and to grow in righteousness and holiness. May my faith be the substance of things hoped for, and the evidence of things not seen. I pray all these things in Jesus' name, amen.
