Day 17 - Because of Christ's Sovereignty, I don’t fear even the negative consequences of my past decisions

As believers in Christ, we can find security and peace in the knowledge that Christ's sovereignty extends over every aspect of our lives, including even the negative consequences of our past decisions. Christ's lordship and authority cover not only our present and future but also our past. Through His sacrifice and resurrection, He has redeemed us from our past mistakes and set us on a new path. Now, as Head over all things to the Church, he exercises authority and power to ensure that literally every detail in our life is used for our good to usher into His kind intentions for us. As we grow in our understanding of Christ's sovereignty, we find we can rest in Him, and in the “works that were finished from the foundation of the world”. This is one of those truths that upon deep meditation will bring increasing freedom from fear and anxiety, knowing that He is in control and working all things together for our good (Romans 8:28).

Verses

  • Romans 8:28 (KJV) - "And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose."
  • Philippians 3:13-14 (KJV) - "Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus."
  • Isaiah 43:18-19 (KJV) - "Remember ye not the former things, neither consider the things of old. Behold, I will do a new thing; now it shall spring forth; shall ye not know it? I will even make a way in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert."
  • 1 John 1:9 (KJV) - "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness."
  • 2 Corinthians 5:17 (KJV) - "Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new."

Prayer / Confession

Heavenly Father, thank You for the sovereignty of Christ over my life. I confess that because of His lordship, I don't need to fear the negative consequences of my past decisions. I believe that all things work together for my good because I love You and am called according to Your purpose (Romans 8:28). Help me to forget the things that are behind and press forward toward the high calling of God in Christ Jesus (Philippians 3:13-14). Thank You for doing a new thing in my life and making a way where there seemed to be none (Isaiah 43:18-19). I confess my sins and trust in Your faithfulness to forgive and cleanse me from all unrighteousness (1 John 1:9). I declare that I am a new creation in Christ, and the old things have passed away; all things have become new (2 Corinthians 5:17). In Jesus' name, Amen.
