Day 14 - Because I Have the Spirit of the Son in Me, I’m Comfortable with God!

We have been given Spirit of the Son, who cries, "Abba Father" in our hearts (Romans 8:15, Galatians 4:6-7). According to Hebrews 2, Christ declares the name of the Father to the Church as part of his work to deliver us from the bondage the devil has held us in due to "Fear of death" (Hebrews 2:14-15). The fear of death is the fear of being consumed by God Himself in judgment. But because of the Son's declaration of "Abba Father" in us, we are being introduced to a new atmosphere, characterized not by condemnation but by His acceptance (Romans 8:1). The more we are acquainted with this atmosphere, the more we will grow in confidence to come boldly to God, free from all the bondage, fear, and condemnation of sin (Hebrews 4:16.)
This is the Spirit of Sonship, witnessing with our spirit that we are the children of God and His heirs. It may be difficult to believe because of so many bad teachings that present Christ as the hard “taskmaster”. But we are not to be captive to fear, doubt, or false beliefs that suggest we are unfit to be in God's presence. People who present Christ as a taskmaster love to talk about obedience, but what about obedience to the truth? We should pursue the truth and learn to believe and affirm that we are God's beloved children and heirs and live our lives with the confidence that comes from a genuine relationship with Him.
The Spirit of the Son enables us to have an intimate relationship with the Father, crying out "Abba, Father." We are no longer orphans but have been adopted into God's family. This is a precious truth that brings us great peace and comfort in our relationship with God. We no longer must fear condemnation or feel like we have to earn our way into God's love and approval. Our heavenly Father loves us and likes us as His children, and we can rest in the assurance of His grace and mercy. We don't have to strive to prove ourselves to Him, but simply believe in Christ who has done everything for us. Our comfort with God comes not from our own efforts or performance, but from the Spirit of the Son who lives within us. Through faith in Christ, we can enjoy the supply of the Spirit and have peace with God.

Verses

  • Romans 8:14-17 - "For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God. For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father. The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God: And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together."
  • Galatians 4:6-7 - "And because ye are sons, God hath sent forth the Spirit of his Son into your hearts, crying, Abba, Father. Wherefore thou art no more a servant, but a son; and if a son, then an heir of God through Christ."
  • Romans 8:15 - "For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father."

Prayer / Confession

Father, I thank You that I have the Spirit of Your Son in me, empowering me to live as Your child and heir. I renounce fear, doubt, and condemnation, while I confess and believe that I am Your beloved child and heir. I thank You for setting me free from the spirit of bondage and fear, and giving me the Spirit of adoption, by which I cry, "Abba, Father!" I trust in Jesus as my righteousness, and I confidently come to Your throne of grace in my time of need. I declare that I am comfortable with You, and I receive Your love, grace, and mercy today and always. In Jesus' name, Amen.
