Day 13 - Because of Christs Resurrection, Death Cannot Hold Me
Romans 8:2 The law of the spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made us free from the law of sin and death.
The freedom spoken of here is liberty from the bondage and fear that once held us captive. The law of the spirit of life brings us into the atmosphere of sonship. As we walk according to the spirit, we experience an inward change of life that transforms us and sets us free from condemnation.
This law works as we “walk in the spirit.” This means we see something of the glory of God shining in the face of Jesus Christ (through faith in the Gospel). This renews us and brings our disposition out of anything related to death. Much of Romans 8 has to do with our “state of mind”. Our carnal mind, full of its moods, dispositions and even hostile thoughts, can be renewed. We can enjoy life and peace.
"The mind set on the spirit is life and peace” (Romans 8:6). This is the practical way to experience the resurrection of Christ and its power. A simple change in mood that comes through renewing from the knowledge of Jesus Christ is a victory over sin and death. This is only possible because of Christ's resurrection, which has made the law of the spirit of life available to those who have died in Him. (Romans 8:2.) How does the law work? By supplying us with Life! What does it do? It renews us and brings us out of death, fear, condemnation and into the “atmosphere” of Sonship through the knowledge of God. Death loses its hold on me.
In ourselves (that is in the flesh) there is only alienation from God and resistance to Him. To enjoy His grace and taste His goodness, to draw near to Him and to be filled with thanksgiving based on a realization of who Christ is, is a result of the victory of Christ who has "captured" and captivated us and reconciled us to Himself, bringing us near through His blood and making peace. (Ephesians 2:13-14) We have peace because of Christ, and if we experience that sense of life and peace and rest in Him, it's coming to us directly from His life. This is "newness of life”, and this is what it means to have the "mind of the spirit" and even to "walk in the spirit". (Romans 6:4, Galatians 2:20)
Verses:
- Romans 8:2 - "For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death."
- Romans 8:15 - "For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father."
- 2 Corinthians 3:18 - "But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord."
- Romans 6:4 - "Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life."
- Galatians 2:20 - "I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me."
- Philippians 3:10 - "That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death;"
Prayer / Confession
Heavenly Father, I thank You for the law of the spirit of life in Christ Jesus that has set me free from the law of sin and death. I am no longer bound by fear and condemnation, for I have received the Spirit of adoption, and I can now call You, Abba, Father (Romans 8:15). As I behold Your glory in the face of Jesus Christ, transform me into Your image from glory to glory by Your Spirit (2 Corinthians 3:18).
Thank You for the resurrection power of Christ that enables me to walk in newness of life (Romans 6:4). I declare that I am crucified with Christ, and it is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. The life I now live in the flesh, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me (Galatians 2:20). In Jesus' name, I declare freedom from sin, death, and fear, and I embrace the abundant life You have for me. Amen.
