Day 8 - Because I’m No Longer Under Law But Under Grace, Sin Shall Not Reign Over Me

According to Romans 6:14, sin will not rule over believers anymore because they are no longer under the law but under grace (Romans 6:14 KJV). Sin's strength lies in condemnation, and it uses the law to condemn believers (Colossians 2:14 KJV). However, since believers have died with Christ, they are no longer bound by the law and are free from condemnation (Romans 7:4 KJV). This understanding of positional truth allows believers to yield themselves to God and live in the awareness that they are God's, trusting that they will live together with Him.
There is no freedom from sin or from the condemnation of sin apart from a present enjoyment of Christ. As far as God is concerned, our freedom is secured, and there is no obstacle before Him that keeps Him from being able to give everything, He has to us freely (Romans 8:1 KJV). However, in our experience, we need to be retrained through the renewing of our mind to agree with God’s decrees, His testimony concerning His Son, which is found in the Gospel. The Gospel is the power of God unto salvation and is the word which is “spirit and life” (John 6:63 KJV).
The life of God and everything pertaining to “life and godliness” flows through the exceedingly precious promises of God that unfold the knowledge of Christ to us (2 Peter 1:3-4 KJV). The corruption that is in the world through lust is not something we have the power to break or to purge from our life, but the knowledge of Jesus Christ Himself is living water to wash and renew us and to sanctify us (John 4:14 KJV, John 17:17 KJV). So we come forward to Him, in full assurance of faith, having our hearts “sprinkled” from an evil conscience and our bodies “washed” with pure water (Hebrews 10:22 KJV). This is a daily renewal that we need and can enjoy, and it comes through the truth of the Gospel.

Verses

  • Romans 6:14 KJV: "For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace."
  • Colossians 2:14 KJV: "Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross;"
  • Romans 7:4 KJV: "Wherefore, my brethren, ye also are become dead to the law by the body of Christ; that ye should be married to another, even to him who is raised from the dead, that we should bring forth fruit unto God."
  • Romans 8:1 KJV: "There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit."
  • John 6:63 KJV: "It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life."

Prayer / Confession

Thank you, Lord, that as a believer, sin shall no longer have dominion over me because I am no longer under the law but under grace. Thank you that sin's power lies in condemnation, but you have freed me from condemnation by giving me new life in you. Thank you that I have died with Christ and am no longer bound by the law.
I confess that I need your help to fully embrace this truth and to be transformed by the renewing of my mind. I pray that I would agree with your decrees and trust in your promises found in the Gospel. I thank you that the Gospel is the power of God unto salvation and that it brings life and godliness to me.
I ask that you wash and renew me daily with the knowledge of Jesus Christ. I pray that you will sanctify me and help me to yield myself to you, trusting that I am yours and that I will live together with you. Thank you for the assurance I have in you and for the freedom you have given me from sin and condemnation. I pray that I would live in the awareness of your love and grace and that I would walk in the Spirit, not in the flesh. Amen.
