Day 2 – Regardless of My Condition, Christ is My Righteousness
Justification is the positional truth that, as believers, we have been declared righteous before God through faith in Jesus Christ (Romans 3:23-24, Romans 5:1). This righteousness is not based on our works or feelings, but solely on the finished work of Christ on the cross (Galatians 2:16, Philippians 3:9). Christ is my righteousness.
My righteousness is a person, and He is the manifestation of the righteousness of God, said to be upon me because I believe (2 Corinthians 5:21, Rom 3:21-28). This righteousness has qualified me, not just for what He has for me, but what He has for Christ because it makes me a co-heir with Christ (Romans 8:17).
This is why according to Ephesians 1:3, we are said to be blessed with every spiritual blessing in the heavenlies. We are seated with Christ in the heavenly places, and we are "accepted in the Beloved" (Ephesians 1:6). For this to be true, all of our sins really had to be purged (Hebrews 1:3). Therefore, justification grants us forgiveness of sins, but it also grants us so much more.
As Paul says, justification secures the "blessing of Abraham, the promise of the Spirit," and the Spirit is God Himself (Galatians 3:14). By growing in the knowledge of what is ours because of justification, we will have the discernment to recognize when a false teacher is trying to "rob us blind" (Colossians 2:8). We will also find assurance and freedom from condemnation, knowing that our standing before God is secure in Christ (Romans 8:1).
Verses
- Romans 3:23-24 (KJV) - "For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus."
- Romans 5:1 (KJV) - "Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ."
- 2 Corinthians 5:21 (KJV) - "For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him."
- Galatians 2:16 (KJV) - "Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith of Christ, and not by the works of the law: for by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified."
- Philippians 3:9 (KJV) - "And be found in him, not having mine own righteousness, which is of the law, but that which is through the faith of Christ, the righteousness which is of God by faith."
Prayer / Confession
Heavenly Father, thank You for the wonderful gift of justification through faith in Jesus Christ. I thank you that my righteousness and standing before You are not based on my works or feelings, but solely on the finished work of Christ on the cross. Lead me in the knowledge of the truth, in paths of righteousness and grant me to see my position as a son and an heir with Christ. I am grateful that I am justified and made righteous in Your sight, free from condemnation and fully secure in Your love.
Teach me to walk in the light of this reality. Help me to enjoy the peace and joy that come from knowing I am justified by faith. Let this truth shape my life, so that I can be bold in all my interactions. Confirm your testimony in me and fill me with knowledge and utterance so that I may have an answer to all accusations whether from the law, the devil or from men. Teach me the testimony of Your love and grace in Christ. Amen.
